Some Brighton and West Coastway area miscellania

Seeing as I live in the South East of England there will naturally be a bit of a bias towards that region in these blogs. And living in Worthing, and having worked in and out of Brighton as a secondman driver there will be a bigger bias towards what was BR Southern Region Central Division, predecessors and successors. Here are some random images in a random order from the archive.

Durrington On Sea station after snowfall 12/03/2012
Durrington On Sea station after snowfall 12/03/2012. First opened 04/07/1937 and surrounded by green fields!
The original New England Bridge of 1839
The original New England Bridge constructed for the opening of the London to Brighton railway in 1839 and still in use today. Much extended to the Western side in the 1960s.

West Worthing station 08/07/2007
My local, West Worthing station in 08/07/2007. The line through here was opened 16/03/1846 but a station was not provided until 04/11/1889. A goods yard opened in 1905.
The temporary extension to platform 3 at Brighton that was put in place during the rebuilding/resignalling of the station layout during Easter 1985.
From a tired negative, this is a view of the temporary extension to platform 3 at Brighton that was put in place during the rebuilding/resignalling of the station layout during Easter 1985.

Goring By Sea Station 09/09/2012
Goring by Sea station 09/09/2012. This station opened when the line was opened 16/03/1846. There were no intermediate stations in the Worthing direction at first, since then West Worthing and Durrington have both opened.

Brighton Station from the Middle Road 1980s.
Another tired negative of Brighton this time showing a secondman's view from the cab of a class 33 Crompton awaiting the road in the Middle Road at Brighton . No exact date but must be between July 1981 (when I passed my traction trainee course) and Easter 1985 when the Middle Road was dispensed with as part of the rebuild/resignalling.
