A number of times a year Network Rail operate special trains over all routes that can analyze the track for defects and radio systems for poor reception. The results of the tests are passed to the local Network Rail area where any remedial action needed can be put into place.
On Wednesday 19/11/2014 one such train was 1Q06 05:21 from Hither Green Sidings to Hither Green Sidings via Lewisham, London Victoria, Redhill, Hove, Worthing, Fratton and Fareham, the journey back to Hither Green being a reverse of the outward journey after Farlington Junction.
During the return journey, class 73 Electro-Diesel 73138 was in the lead with 73119 at the rear.

| The third coach was former MKI BG 6263 (formerly 81231 and 92961), now a Generator Coach. |

| The fourth and final coach was ex Gatwick Express Mark 2F TSO 72612, formerly 6156 before Conversion for Gatwick Express duties. Now used as a test train brake force runner to ensure adequate brake force is available with these short trains. |
